April is distracted driver awareness month- distracted driving is deadly and has become an epidemic in the past decade. The most common distraction is cell phone use. Texting and driving and scrolling through social media are especially common causes. Besides cell phones, things like applying makeup, talking to and looking at passengers, and adjusting the radio or other dashboard options can make you distracted. None of this is worth the consequences of a possible deadly crash!

In 2023 alone, distracted driving killed 3,275 people. Let’s take a moment and consider these safety tips for a safer drive:

  1. Pull over and park your car if you need to send a text or email
  2. Designate your passenger as your designated texter or caller if you’re expecting something important
  3. Do not scroll through social media or apps while driving

Struggling with any of these tips? Try putting your cell phone in the glove compartment, center console, or even the trunk when driving.

Remind your friends and family that their lives are more precious than a text message, Instagram post, or phone call. Is that text really worth your, or someone elses, life?
