Health Savings Accounts or HSA’s allow you to pay for many of your medical expenses with pre-tax dollars.  To participate in an HSA, you must be enrolled in a qualifying high-deductible health plan, which relieves some of the cost of high insurance premiums.  We can help with the selection of the appropriate health insurance policy to provide the coverage you desire. We are not licensed to provide the HSA’s, but can provide you with a list of providers.

Contributions to your HSA account can be made through pre-tax payroll deductions or through tax-deductible annual or monthly contributions.  As long as you spend the money in the account for qualified medical expenses such as office visits, prescription drugs, lab tests, dental or vision expenses and other qualified medical expenses you don’t have to pay tax on the principle you contribute or the interest it earns.  Balances in the HSA roll over from year to year and earn interest tax-free.

When you turn age 65, you are not allowed to make additional contributions, but your HSA funds can still be used to pay for expenses not covered by Medicare, including insurance premiums and long term care expenses.  You can also withdraw funds for non-qualified expenses without an IRS penalty, but subject to income tax on the interest earned.

For a complete list of HSA qualified medical expenses refer to Internal Revenue Service Publication 502, “Medical and Dental Expenses” or visit www.irs.gov.

Dental Insurance offers a variety of benefits, which can be tailored to meet your specific needs.  Dental insurance may be written on an individual or group basis.  Waiting periods often apply before basic and major care benefits are available, however, there is not a waiting period on preventive care.  There is usually an annual or lifetime deductible and co-insurance.   Available benefits include your choice of the following:
  • Preventive care.
  • Basic care (x-rays, fillings, extractions).
  • Major care (oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, crowns, bridges, dentures).
  • Orthodontia (group only).
